Frensham market farm
Tom and Grace started Frensham Farm CIC in 2022. In just three years they have developed a thriving market garden and vibrant veg box business. They run a no-dig organic practice farm over three and a half acres, two acres of which is in production and the remainder in set-aside or recovery blocks that rotate seasonally.
They are on a very free draining soil which has pros and cons. It means they don’t flood and the soil won’t become anaerobic. They also don’t suffer from compaction like so many Sussex and Kent farms that are on heavy clay. However, what will freely drain away with surplus water, is nutrients. Therefore, almost the identical practice is applied to loose soils as they are with compacted ones. And that means keeping lots of roots IN the soil! This binds together loose matter like a sponge retains liquid.
The result is highly productive, nutrient dense and delicious veg!
