linley estate
Set in one of Shropshire’s quieter valleys, the Linley Estate has long been part of the local landscape: old woodland, pasture, and a patchwork of fields that reflect generations of steady, practical farming. For years it was a traditional country estate, shaped by the slow rhythms of livestock, seasonal cropping and the kind of rural management that rarely makes a fuss but leaves a deep imprint on the land.
The estate’s new custodians are taking that history seriously while opening the door to something more forward-looking. Their aim is not sweeping reinvention but gentle renewal. They see Linley as a place where good land can be looked after properly, where productive farming can sit comfortably alongside biodiversity, and where long-established practices can be paired with thoughtful ideas about the future.
At the centre of their plans is a revived market garden. The intention is to build a space that supports soil health, produces a wide range of crops and reconnects the estate to the growing traditions that once defined it.
Since expanding fruit and vegetable production, they have been supplying the likes of St. John and Rochelle Canteen as well as the Bridges Pub, Shrewsbury - and now Shrub is proud to be part of their wider supply network.
Under new ownership, Linley feels poised rather than transformed. Its past is still firmly underfoot, but its next chapter carries a sense of purpose: quiet, practical and rooted in the land itself.
